Matthew Rose
Limited Edition Artist Stamp No. 23

The Portland Stamp Company's Artist Series is an ongoing collaboration with invited designers, artists, and writers who create original work for an unusual form: the poster stamp. The poster stamps are printed on lickable, gummed paper and pinhole perforated by hand on their vintage machines.

The sheets are digitally printed, rubber stamped and signed by the artist, released in a limited edition of 100.

The stamps on this sheet served as the catalog for Matthew’s show “Weekend Plans” at the Karuizawa New Art Museum in Japan.

Packaged in an eco-friendly, vegetable-based cellulose protective sleeve with chipboard backing.

Please Note: This is not actual US postage, but a series of artist-created stamps intended for both adornment and collecting.

This stamp is also part of The Artist Series Box Set No. 21-30.

Commemorative poster stamps are artifacts from another time. These miniature bits of advertising were popular in Europe at the turn of the century. Their appeal, utility, and popularity quickly grew, becoming ubiquitous in the United States in the 1920s.

Weekend Plans signed, dated, stamped and numbered edition produced for the Karuizawa New Art Museum exhibition of Weekend Plans.

The edition is limited to 100 but only 40 are available in Japan.

The works measure 29.7 x 42 cm, are all perforated and printed on gummed paper.

The collage works themselves are on view and for sale at New Art Lab in Tokyo’s Ginza District
