Crap Hound - Superstition
Artfully Arranged Iconography

Edited and designed by Sean Tejaratchi, Crap Hound is the seminal mixture of social commentary and somewhat overindulgent graphic design.

Between a brief introduction and the end credits, Crap Hound is pure imagery.

Each page is filled with high-contrast line art, culled from vintage catalogs, advertising, obscure books, and found ephemera.

Through sheer volume of artfully arranged iconography, Crap Hound provides a visual survey of dozens of popular and lesser known superstitions.

This issue is 100-pages including the cover and features two copyright free typefaces!

This issue was formerly known as Crap Hound No. 8, but has since been updated, improved and even more loved.

Sean Tejaratchi is an American graphic designer, art director and writer.

He is currently based in Los Angeles, but cut his teeth working on alt-weeklies in Portland, Oregon in the 90s.

Sean is known for creating the clip art zine Crap Hound, and was voted one of "The 25 Funniest People on Twitter" by Rolling Stone in 2012. He also is known for the blog LiarTownUSA that defined what a modern satirist is in the early 2000s.

Notes for the Fourth Edition

I removed the big “8” from this edition’s cover, in keeping with my desire to drop the pointless numbering. The contents are otherwise untouched, with everything included in the earlier editions.

In late January 2020, just as this fourth edition was about to go to press, the Covid-19 lockdowns began. The reprint was postponed. I used the downtime to work on the 2020 Additions issue. The 24-page Superstition addendum (full of new material, intended to be printed with this fourth edition), went into the Additions issue instead.

My thanks to Chloe of Reading Frenzy for originally suggesting the topic of Superstition. Thanks to Jim Goad for help with the bulletin-board list of contributors at the back. The typefaces Space Bather and Vernefurly are both reprinted from 1960s subscription clip art. The back cover was recreated from a 1930s Speedball Lettering catalog. Thanks to contributors past and present for thousands of the images that appear here.

Thanks to Pat and Aaron at Buyolympia for publishing this. And thank you, my magical, sparkling friend, for reading!
