Emily Martin (The Black Apple) does amazing paintings, and we're excited to have a few of them as prints.
She says about this portrait, “I have a soft spot in my heart for pansies and violas.
Their petiteness, their ubiquity, their bright eyes...
I imagine a girl named Pansy would be quite prim, but with a little mischievous je ne sais quoi.”
Part of Emily's Flower Girls series.
“These paintings hope to capture the elegance and liveliness of blooming things. They are inspired by my own garden and portraits from the 1930's and 1940's, as each variety of flower is "embodied" by a girl or lady, sitting for their portrait.”
The print is archival, water-resistant, fade-resistant, and has a beautiful richness.
All prints arrive sealed in a cello sleeve and a protective stiff envelope, signed by Emily Martin.
